MSC Unveils New Service to Strengthen Saudi-East Asia Trade Links

Jeddah: Mediterranean Shipping Co. (MSC) is launching a new shipping service, "Clanga," at Jubail Commercial Port to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s trade ties with East Asia, the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) announced.

The service will link Jubail with King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, Port of Singapore, Port of Shanghai, and Port of Colombo, handling up to 6,000 TEUs. This move is expected to boost foreign investment and supply chain efficiency while enhancing Saudi Arabia’s global logistics network.

Mawani emphasized that the service aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, positioning Saudi Arabia as a key global logistics hub. The port’s proximity to production hubs and advanced infrastructure allows it to accommodate vessels of various sizes, further strengthening the Kingdom’s connectivity.

As a major export facilitator, Jubail Port plays a vital role in shipping industrial and petrochemical products from Jubail Industrial City, increasing Saudi Arabia’s global trade competitiveness.

Previously, in August, MSC introduced a similar service at King Abdulaziz Port, connecting major Chinese terminals such as Ningbo, Shanghai, and Shekou, with a capacity of up to 15,000 TEUs.

MSC stated that the Clanga service aims to ease terminal congestion in the Middle East and improve Asia-Middle East cargo movement. The company, awarded “Best Shipping Line Asia-Africa” in 2024, highlighted that the direct Dammam-to-Shanghai route would offer a competitive advantage for Saudi exports.
